PUT YOUR CHILD’S CODING SKILLS TO THE TEST BY COMPETING WITH STUDENTS ACROSS THE NATION FOR PRIZES & GLORY.

Hackathon by Young Gates

Welcome to Hackabyte’s 2025 Winter Hackathon! This hackathon will be a 2-day event (date: Mar 29-30). The venue is still being finalized. Further updates regarding any changes to date and time will be sent via email.  We are sponsored by numerous companies, such as Desmos, Young Gates , Bay Area Champion.
 
After the hackathon’s central theme is presented, participants will have to form teams and come up with a creative solution that addresses this theme. Throughout the event, there will be fun challenges, educational presentations, and much more. The event will conclude with each group presenting their projects to judges, where the most innovative solutions receive prizes and the taste of sweet, sweet victory.
 
The hackathon will start at 10am on March 29th – 30th.

This hackathon’s prize pool is $350 in cash. There will be further company product prizes given to honorable mentions.:

  • First place: $200
  • Second Place: $100
  • Third Place: $25

  • A laptop and a charger
  • Any other items that could be useful for your project

Saturday

01 Junior (8-11 years)
Schedule:

Round 1: Kicks off on the **27th of November 2021 @ 2 PM** We will discuss information about Code-A-Thon, give an overview and answer any queries. Students will be given a program which they have to submit by **3rd of December 2021 @ 7:00 PM** Late entries won’t be accepted.

Round 2: Kicks off on the **4th of December 2021 @ 2 PM** Prepare for a live demonstration of your Round One project over Zoom. All those who complete and submit will be moved to enter Round 3. Those who do not submit will be withdrawn. A topic to create a simulation of natural human conversation will be given to submit by December 17th by 7:00 pm. Late entries won’t be accepted.
Round 3: Kicks off on the **18th of December 2021 @ 2 PM** Prepare for a live demonstration of your Round Two project over Zoom.

Declaration of Results by **8th January 2022 @ 2 PM** 3 Winners will be notified by message and receive $50, $40, and $30 Amazon gift cards. Every participant who reaches Round 3 and presents will get a participation certificate.

Declaration of Results by **9th January 2022 @ 2 PM** 3 Winners will be notified by message and receive $50, $40, and $30 Amazon gift cards. Every participant who reaches Round 3 and presents will get a participation certificate.

Prizes

Each league will have three winning teams:

SILVER

Certificates for each contestant in the winning team $40 Amazon gift card for 2nd place.

GOLD

Certificates for each contestant in the winning team $50 Amazon gift card for each 1st place.

BRONZE

Certificates for each contestant in the winning team $30 Amazon gift card for 3rd place

All contestants who submit a project will receive a certificate of participation.

Basic Rules

We allow contestants to compete across two leagues:

Team Size

One to Two contestants

1 Project Per Contestant

Contestants cannot submit a team project and a solo project

HONOR CODE

Adults (instructors, parents, etc.) can help contestants debug, but the majority of the work must be done by the contestants

CONTESTANT AGE LIMIT

Ages 7 - 16 only

US RESIDENTS ONLY

All contestants must reside in one of the 50 US states

NO COPYRIGHT MATERIAL

Photos, music, text, video, and other mediums

Yes, this competition is 100% online. The contestant can work on their project at any place and time as long as your child has access to a computer and an internet connection.

Nothing! There is no registration fee.

On average, contestants are putting in 5-10 hours to complete their projects.

Yes, the coding experience is a recommendation and not a requirement. However, this hackathon will not provide any tutorials or teaching materials. If your child would like to learn how to code, please check out Young Gates curriculum.

We recommend parents/Students to register the contestants to appropriate age category
